2012 Swim Team Social Events

At Woodlands, we believe that our swimmers learn as much out of the water, as they do in. We have a schedule of social events and activities throughout the summer season to provide additional time for our kids (and parents) to bond as a team and further develop teaming and camaraderie. All events are staffed by parent volunteers. If you have any questions regarding the social calendar, please contact Jamie LaPierre, our 2012 Social Director.

Buddies

Swimmers from different age groups are paired as “buddies” for the season. Buddies cheer each other on at meets, give moral support, and make each other cards or maybe just “hang out” together. Some team oriented goodies are often exchanged. This is an optional activity.

Parent/Coach Potluck

This is an evening event at the home of a swim team family so the parents and coaches (no swimmers this time) can get to know each other better.

Age Group Outings

Each age group on the team has a special day or event planned for them and the Coaches. Past outings included Survivor, Floatey Doatey, Pump It Up, A’s Games, Mini golf and the like.

Night out with the Woodlands

This is a themed event organized by the coaches and usually held at the Shadelands facility down the street. At Night Out, younger swimmers are paired up with coaches or older swimmers for dinner. Each swimmer brings a different part of the dinner and they dine together along with the evening “date”. This is another great opportunity for younger kids to get to know the older swimmers.

Raging Waters

This is a great family event usually held on a Monday in July. Raging Waters is a water wonderland of water slides of all abilities, pools and lazy rivers. Located in San Jose, Raging Waters is usually a day long event that always draws a crowd. It is not to be missed.

Pasta Feed

Our Pasta Feed is another Woodlands tradition held the Thursday night before City Meet- our first two day meet of the summer season. Parent volunteers arrange to have a pasta dinner held at the pool where swimmers can “carbo-load” prior to the weekend meet.

Lip Sync

At Lip Sync, swimmers, coaches, and parents alike show their lip sync talents in front of the rest of the team poolside. A highlight of Lipsync is the “farewell” performance of those moms who’s swimmers are aging out of Woodlands.

Coaches Appreciation Lunch

Near the end of the season, lunch is brought to the coaches at the pool. The swimmers are encouraged to make cards or crafts to give to the coaches.  A collection is taken prior to the lunch to purchase gift certificate for our coaches to show our appreciation of all their hard work.

Men's Poker Night

Men’s Poker Night continues to be a highlight of the summer season and raises a nice amount of money for our team. Poker Night is traditionally held on a Friday evening in June at the pool and organized by one of our Dads. There are prizes for the top finishers and the winner gets his name engraved on the prestigious Poker Night Plaque.
